SL - Biofertilizer / Soil Improver
A non-conventional green manure crop or
companion crop which is used solely as an improvement
crop for soils which have high salinity
Product Description: A composition
of selected salt tolerant cyanophyta (microalgae)
single-celled plants in a dry mixture with a density
of no less than 320 million living (but dormant)
plant cells per gram.
Dosage: One ounce per acre (70 grams
per Ha) mixed with water and sprayed on with spray
equipment. The product may also be injected into
irrigation system and coated on some dry fertilizers.
Growth Cycle: After seeding onto the
soil surface of a field, the microalgae colonize
the upper one inch (2.5 cm.) of soil by rapid
cell division. MICROP-SL microalgae colonization
reaches maturity (total biomass peaks) in about
28 days under the average field conditions of
a regularly irrigated crop field soil.
Mode of Action: MICROP-SL growths
leave natural, unmanipulated organic residues
on the soil surface. The residue is a complex
of organic compounds which include polysaccharides,
organic acids, plant growth stimulating hormones
and nitrogen from nitrogen fixation. These residues
infiltrate into the soil profile. The .organic
acids are instrumental in freeing calcium carbonate
complexes in the soil mineralogy, if such complexes
are present. The mobile calcium will replace the
sodium on the exchange site. To remove the supplanted
sodium, it is recommended that mechanical leaching
of treated soil follow MICROP-SL application approximately
one month after MICROP-SL treatment. Also, some
of the sodium which does not leach out may complex
with the newly added polysaccharides to form organic
compounds where the sodium is not available to
growing plants.
Technical Data Sheet
Application Time: Four to six
times per year at 30-60 day intervals as is fitting
for the cultural practices in use.
Chemicals: MICROP-SL may be tank mixed
with a wide variety of fertilizers, pesticides
and other chemicals for single pass application
of multiple technologies. Check with manufacturer
for chemicals compatible with MICROP-SL.
Temperature: The microalgae in MICROP-SL
propagates readily when outside daytime air temperatures
are between 45'- 95'F (7'0- 35"C). The microalgae
become inactive (they do not die) when the air
temperatures are below 45 degrees F (7 degrees
C) or above 95 F (35 degrees C).
Moisture Requirements: The top 5 inches
(12.7 cm.) of soil must be above 40% field capacity
to support microalgae cell division for the MICROP-SL
growing in the top one inch (2.5 cm.) of soil.
The cells revert to dormancy (they do not die)
when the field -moisture capacity is below 40%
in the top 5 inches (12.7 cm.) of top soil.
Leaching: Approximately 30 days after
each MICROP-SL treatment, provide extra water
during a regularly scheduled irrigation pass.
Shelf Life: One year.
