| Permatrol
- Powdery mildew control
Permatrol, a new contact treatment for powdery
mildew is now commercially available for use on
all crops including grapes and ornamentals. The
label includes outdoor, greenhouse and shadehouse
grown ornamentals as well as nursery stock. Permatrol
is a natural product derived from jojoba seeds.
It is a unique pesticide in a liquid wax form.
HOW DOES PERMATROL WORK?
Permatrol kills on contact by smothering
powdery mildew mycelium and preventing sport formation
and dispersal. It causes immediate lysis, or destruction
of fungus cells, including strains resistant to
other classes of compounds. The material has a
wax component, which leaves a natural residue
on plant tissue. This waxy residue continues to
suppress disease spores long after application,
extending retreatement intervals. An added bonus
of this waxy residue is that it gives plants a
healthy shiny appearance prior to shipping.
PERMATROL BENEFITS
Consistent Efficiency
- Permatrol is one of few "curative"
materials that effectively kills powdery mildew
mycelium.
- Permatrol provides broad spectrum control
of powdery mildew strains, including those developing
resistance to other compounds.
Minimum Worker Re-entry Interval
- Re-entry in 4 hours
- Ideal applicator safety
- Can be used on day of harvest
Ideal for IPM Program
- Soft on beneficials
- Does not cause secondary pest outbreaks
Improves Ornamental Plant Marketability
- Cleans and shines plant surfaces
- Foliage is more appealing to consumers
TECHINICAL DATA:
Purpose: Permatrol is a contact
fungicide for use in an IPM program for control
of powdery mildews. Permatrol is labeled for all
crops.
Application: Unlike preventative
materials that are applied before disease infection,
Permatrol needs to be applied only after powdery
mildew is observed. Make the first application
when powdery mildew infection is first observed.
Make follow-up applications when powdery mildew
infections are again observed. Under heavy infestations,
two back-to-back applications 7 days apart may
be required for control. Permatrol may be used
alone, rotated with other contact fungicides or
tank-mixed with protectant fungicides.
Application Rates: A rate of
0.5% v/v spray solution is optimum for control
of light to moderate infestations of powdery mildew.
A higher concentration up to 1.0% v/v may be necessary
for heavy infestations of powdery mildew. Do not
exceed a rate of 1.0% spray solution in any application.

Coverage: As with all contact
materials, through spray coverage with Permatrol
is very important for good disease control. Jojoba
wax covers powdery mildew mycelia and spores and
causes immediate lysis, or destruction of the
fungus cells. Avoid excessive runoff of spray
material for maximum control.
Agitation: Once mixed continuous agitation
of the spray solution is required to assure proper
deposit of Permatrol on the plant. If the spray
solution sits for a lengthy period without agitation
be sure to agitate it well before starting to
spray again.
Temperature: For optimal mixing, do no
mix with cold water or apply under cold ambient
temperatures (less than 50ºF or 10ºC). It is normal
for jojoba wax to solidify in temperatures less
than 50ºF (10ºC). If Permatrol does solidify,
place the bottle in a warm room or run under warm
water until normal viscosity returns.
