Plant Protec - Animal
repellent
The Garlic Odor - A Known Deer, Elk,
and Rabbit Repellent
The repellent formulation is based on scientific
data that the garlic odor repels deer, elk, and
rabbits. In addition to garlic and carriers, the
formulation contains chili pepper to ensure that
if an animal likes garlic, it will not take a
second bite on a Plant Pro-Tech (Garlic) unit.
The units are easy to activate and use and are
environmentally safe.
Developed by a Research Scientist in the Forestry
Industry,
over 2 million units have been used to
protect forest tree seedlings, orchards, vineyards,
commercial nurseries and home landscapes and gardens.
Experience has shown that the Plant Pro-Tec units
discourage browsing. In general, it will require
fewer units to prevent damage than to stop damage
once it has begun.
The Garlic Odor Lasts a Long Time
because of the unique design. Once activated,
the garlic odor is released over time. The cone
on the inside of the device is permeable to the
garlic odor but impermeable to air and prevents
the oxidation of the sulfur compounds which give
garlic its repelling odor. Each unit lasts 6 months
or more.
Little or No Garlic Odor During Warehousing
and Transporting.
The garlic odor is contained in the Plant
Pro-Tec (Garlic) units by the barrier on the inside
of each unit.
From Shipping Box to Installer's Carrying
Bag
Two hundred and fifty units are packed into each
plastic bag. The units can be easily removed from
the plastic bag and placed into a carrying bag
on the installer's belt.
How To Use Plant Pro-Tec [Garlic]
Releasing the Repelling Garlic Odor
The repelling garlic odor is released
in seconds by puncturing the barrier. A tool that
attaches to the installer's belt for puncturing
the barrier is included with every order.
Except for the Odor, No Garlic Formulation
is Released Into the Environment
Unless someone cuts open a Plant Pro-Tec (Garlic)
Unit, they should never come into direct contact
with the garlic formulation. However, the worst
that could happen if the garlic formulation got
on someone is that they would smell like garlic.
Attaching the Plant Pro-Tec (Garlic) Unit
to the Plant
A unit can be attached to leaves, needles,
or branches (up to 1/2 inch in diameter) in seconds
using the special clip. Place 3-4 ft. apart to
create a barrier around plants. For a plant too
small or spindly to hold up a unit, an activated
unit can be placed in the soil next to the plant.
A unit weighs only 0.14 ounces.
A Plant Pro-Tec (Garlic) Unit can be
Attached to a Plant Anytime of the Year.
If attached in the fall, it should be
active through the winter and the next growing
season. If attached in the spring, it should be
effective at least until the next fall. Tests
are underway to determine how long the Plant Pro-Tec
(Garlic) units are effective under different conditions.
Rain will not affect the garlic formulation.
Aversive Conditioning of Deer, Elk, and
Rabbits
The repelling garlic odor and green and
white body of the Plant Pro-Tec (Garlic) unit
results in aversive conditioning of deer, elk,
rabbits, and possibly other animals. The animals
will stay away for a time even after the odor
dissipates.
Sun's Energy Assists with the Distribution
of Garlic Odor
The green body absorbs the sun's energy and causes
the formulation to warm which increases the garlic
odor intensity.
The Plant Pro-Tec (Garlic) Unit Self-Destructs
The polypropylene body of the Plant Pro-Tec
(Garlic) unit contains a substance which allows
it to photo-degrade within about 24 months under
typical outdoor conditions.
Warehousing and Transporting Can Be Done
Under a Wide Range of Conditions
Plant Pro-Tec (Garlic) units can be warehoused
and transported at temperatures ranging from 30
to 90 F. without deterioration of the repelling
odor or the polypropylene unit body or barrier
as long as the units are not stored in direct
sunlight. The units have an indefinite shelf life.
